Dr. Ilan Cohen performs 1st New York implantable contact lens surgery.
Visian ICL can give patients the precious gift of sight if they don’t qualify for LASIK because they are extremely nearsighted or their corneas are too thin. The implantable contact lens can stay in forever or be removed at any time. (New York-WNYW-TV (FOX), May 30, 2006)
Dr. Ilan Cohen performs New York City’s first implantable contact lens.
Visian ICL is an option for people who don’t qualify for LASIK and either can’t wear or don’t want to wear contact lenses. The surgeon inserts a tiny lens into the cornea to better focus light to the back of the eye. If vision changes, the lens can be removed and replace with another. (New York-WABC, May 12, 2006)
Dr. Ilan Cohen performs 1st artificial corneal transplant in New York area.
Sight was restored in the legally blind eye of a 69-year-old New Jersey man. He had lost vision in his left eye in a chemical accident in 1968 and standard corneal transplants had failed. It was the first surgery of its kind in the region. (New York-WABC, May 12, 2006)
