The ReZoom Lens
Whether it’s cataracts of presbyopia, getting older can dramatically alter your vision in a negative way. Cataracts occur when your natural lenses cloud over, and presbyopia occurs when you lose your ability to focus you eyes on near objects (accommodation). The only treatment for cataracts is to remove the cataract lens surgically and replace it with an intraocular lens (IOL). In the past, most standard intraocular lenses were fixed for distance vision only. Today, there are other choices. Dr. Ilan Cohen at Fifth Avenue Eye Center can discuss the various options with you.
Advantages and Disadvantages of ReZoom IOL:
One of the most popular intraocular lenses is the ReZoom lens. The ReZoom IOL is a specially designed lens implant that offers patients the ability to see clearly at near, intermediate and far distances. It is a multifocal refractive IOL with multiple optical zones. The lens implant distributes light over those zones to produce a full range of vision correction. The ReZoom lens also offers clear vision in variable lighting conditions. Like all eye surgeries, the Rezoom procedure poses some risk of complication. Infection is always possible with eye surgery, but can be mitigated with medication. Additionally, some halo effect or glare has been reported with ReZoom lenses, but this usually clears up within several months.
Dr. Ilan Cohen has extensive experience working with many types of implantable lenses. An extensive screening exam at the Fifth Avenue Eye Center can determine if the ReZoom IOL is right for you. Typical candidates are those with cataracts who also have difficulty with near vision. Some patients without cataracts may be able to benefit from ReZoom lenses as well.
