Advantages of Visian ICL
STAAR Surgical’s Visian ICL vision correction surgery is a permanent solution for those suffering from myopia (nearsightedness). The goal of Visian ICL eye surgery is to provide patients with implantable lenses that deliver high definition images that are clear and crisp at any distance. Other advantages of this type of eye surgery include:
- Sharp visual clarity in addition to acuity (20/20 vision)
- Short procedure time (15 minutes per eye)
- Outpatient surgery (in a medical facility or hospital setting)
- Quick recovery time (as little as one day to resume normal activities)
- Invisible lens to the naked eye that is also undetectable to the wearer
- Reversible procedure (unlike LASIK)
- UV-blocking technology that protects eyes from exposure to UV radiation
Visian ICL eye surgery typically produces better results and less higher order aberrations than traditional LASIK corrective surgery. Most patients come out of surgery already noticing a huge improvement in their eyesight. According to STAAR Surgical, 99% of Visian ICL patients have reported satisfactory results.
What’s more, these lenses are effective for a wide range of refractive errors, and can correct myopia cases from as low as -3.0 diopters up to -20.0 diopters. Before this procedure became available, many people with myopia levels in this range did not qualify for surgical eye correction. Visian ICL is opening doors for millions of people searching for better options for vision surgery.
How Does Visian ICL Work?
Although there are other types of phakic IOLs (intraocular lenses), Visian ICL uses Collamer lenses designed exclusively by the STAAR Surgical Company. They are biocompatible, which means that the human eye will accept them more easily since they are made of organic materials. Further, there is evidence that Visian ICL may simply provide better optical performance than alternate procedures.
During your procedure, Dr, Cohen will implant a Collamer lens in the posterior chamber of each eye, behind the iris. This makes it invisible to both the patient as well as outside observers. This type of positioning also allows the iris to function normally and reduces the risk of complications associated with vision correction surgery.
