What is Visian ICL?
Visian ICL is a surgical process by which implantable lenses are placed in the eye to permanently correct myopia (nearsightedness). Visian ICL helps you regain sharp, crisp images that may not be possible with traditional LASIK or PRK eye surgery. LASIK improves visual acuity, which means that your eyes can be restored to 20/20 vision. Visian ICL, however, improves visual quality to make the images that you see focused and clear. The result is “high definition” vision any time of day or night. Even the U.S. military has used this procedure to help soldiers achieve superior visual clarity. Many patients who are not candidates for LASIK or PRK because of thin or irregular corneas can be good candidates for this procedure, since no cornea tissue is removed.
Who Can Get Visian ICL?
Typically, ideal candidates for implantable contact lenses are:
- Between the ages of 21 and 45
- Not pregnant
- Not allergic to medications used during surgery
- Nearsighted (with or without astigmatism), including people who have myopia that is either mild, moderate or severe and have minor or no astigmatism
Additionally, candidates who qualify for Visian ICL eye surgery must have sufficient anterior chamber depth, acceptable endothelial cell density and a consistent eyeglass prescription for the last 12 months (this means no change more than 0.5D). The Visian ICL Procedure
The STAAR Visian ICL procedure takes about 30 minutes to complete. Before surgery, local anesthetic drops will be administered to numb the area. A mild sedative may also be used to help you relax throughout the procedure. During Visian ICL eye surgery, your surgeon will place a contact lens implant behind your iris (the colored part of the eye). Recovery begins immediately and most normal activities can be resumed the same night as surgery, but you will have to have someone drive you home after your procedure. One of the benefits of Visian ICL is its reversibility. If you experience any trouble after the surgery, you can have the lenses removed or replaced at any time.
