Which is the right procedure for me?

LASIK / LASEK/ Implantable lens / No flap procedure / bladeless/ etc. What does it all mean?

This Question can only be answered after a comprehensive screening exam to assess your personal needs. This exam includes numerous tests that determine the unique qualities of your eyes. Some procedures are listed below:

LASIK: A flap is created from the Cornea and the LASER modifies the tissue underneath the flap and then the flap is repositioned.

LASEK: Bladeless, no flap is created. Instead the overlying layer of the Cornea called the “epithelium” is pushed to the side and the laser is applied to the surface directly. Then the epithelium is repositioned.

PRK: similar to LASEK, however, the epithelium is just removed and not repositioned. It will regenerate itself in a few days.

Epi-LASIK: Similar to LASEK in all aspects except that the epithelium is removed with a special automated instrument.

Implantable Contact Lens: No tissue removal or modifications are done to the cornea. Instead a lens is placed inside the eye that can stay there for good. Since no tissue is removed this procedure is reversible. It is especially suitable for people with thin corneas, dry eyes or high prescriptions. Most LASIK centers do not have experience with this option and therefore don’t offer it to their patients.

Clear lensectomy: this procedure is similar to cataract surgery, but without the presence of cataract. The eye’s natural lens is removed and replaced with another lens. This procedure does not remove any tissue from the cornea. It can treat a wide range of prescriptions and is especially suitable for very extreme degrees of correction. Most LASIK centers do not have experience with this option and therefore don’t offer it to their patients.
